New Member with lots of questions!

Hey Guys,

I was just directed to this site and man its loaded with great info.  I live in southeastern NY, just far enough away from NYC.     I started getting into the silhouette game a few years ago but got sidetracked due to family health reasons but now I'm coming back.  Unfortunately the season is almost over but its better than nothing!

I'll do as much searching as I can to find the answers to the questions I am dying to ask but I'll refrain until I can't find what I'm looking for.  Basic stuff, ammo/gun suggestions, etc.

One thing I will ask is why is this game so addicting!!!!  I went to a match a couple of weeks ago up at Hendrick Hudson in Albany and I ended up going out and buying a used Marlin 1897 Cowboy .22 just so I could shoot in their cowboy matches as well as the regular smallbore.  I've already found a good front and rear sight combo for it as suggested in prior posts so you guys have helped a lot already.  Brownells will be getting a call once I have the rifle in my hands which will be early next week.  Tossing around the idea of putting a Marble's rear tang on it but I bet its not as good for accurate shooting as the Williams...

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and I'm looking forward to learning lots and maybe I can even help sometime.  If anyone is going to the PA Smallbore State Championship this weekend, hopefully I'll see you there!  I'm shooting for both days, need to get my clicks for meters since I've only shot yards.

Thanks!

Billy Lo

Welcome, Billy!

While some of us have little or no exposure to Cowboy Silhouette shooting, most of us have been at regular Silhouette for a while. I'm sure most of us will be more than glad to share past lessons learned (screw-ups) and success stories. Glad to have you on board!  :cb2:

Hi Billy,
How are you!
I recognize you from the Field Target Forum. I'm also a Field Target shooter from CASA in California, and you certainly found the right place to really get involved in this discipline.

Otherwise we wouldn't still be missing! (I guess a few must know somethin'.)

Let us know when you're comin' to Texas!

Thanks for the warm welcome and good to see some familiar, friendly faces!

I gotta change my first post, that 1897 Cowboy .22 I just got turned out to be an early birthday present.  How cool is that!??!

Now I need to decide if I should go with a Marbles or William's rear sight.  Marbles would look the most correct I guess but I bet the Williams would really let me dial it in better.  I'm going to go with a Lyman 17AHB, .404" front with a post.

Going to try to get to the range tomorrow to get my zero's in meters for this weekends match with my hunter class .22.  Looks like its gonna be nice weather!

B :D
