I see that Nosler recommends Reloader 19 as tops for (their) accuracy for 140 and 160gn bullets. How has it worked for you 280 cal shooters?

R19 and R22 both worked well in the 280's that I reloaded for before both were converted to 280AI's. Now R22 works best in both.

I used and still use Fed210match primers.

I have been using the regular Federal 210 primers, and have had excellent results with IMR 4350 and also the Reloader 19 in the light loads. This weekend I will increase my powder loads and see how she groups.

Though I want a .280 cal rifle, I do not own one yet. I have used Re-19 in my .300 wsm using 165 gr Nosler ballistic tips and got my best groups ever. I really like this powder and will some day try it in a .280 also.

What companies still produce a rifle in .280?

I have tried Reloder 19 & 22 as well as several other powders for my 280 Rem in a Remington 700 Mountain rifle (22" barrel) but was never able to get the velocity/accuracy combination that I was looking for with any of those powders. That is until I tried IMR 4350 "WOW" velocity jumped from 2900fps to 3080fps (no pressure signs) and when I do my part properly I am getting 3/4" groups @ 100 yards and 3" groups @ 300 yards.

Big, my 280 is in a Sako 75 Hunter, but I think Tikka makes one also.

Actually the "recommended" powder for 140 and 160 gn Nosler bullets is Reloader 19 (they list it also as having the best velocity). For 150 gn bullets it is IMR4350.

OF course the problem with the Nosler data is that for some reason they use a 26" barrel for their testing. My barrel is a smidge short of 23".

Cam, can you tell me how many grains of Re-19 or Re-22 you are using?

Longwinters........

The load with Rel 19 was 58gr's with a 140gr Nosler Partition
Rel 22 was 56grs with a 150gr Nosler Partition
and my IMR4350 load is 57grs with a 139gr Hornady SST
oops.... I forgot to bring the Velocity figures, hope this helps

Thanks for the info. My Nosler book says for 140 gn bullets 53-57 gns of Reloader 19. I have shot the 57 gn loads but not higher. Although I had very good accuracy with 55 gn loads on Sat. using the Accubond bullets. I would imagine with the 58 gn loads and the usual 22" barrel, of most rifles of this caliber, you must be at least a little over 3000fps. I was not eccstatic over my groups with 57 gns when I tried their "hot" load.

With a Remington Mountain rifle 22" barrel I was getting an average of only 2880fps with Reloader 19 and the 140gr Partition.
