New .44 magnum advise?

If you were going to buy a brand new .44 magnum handgun for EVERYDAY use, and you were going to have to carry it on a daily basis, and you were going to have to shoot nothing but real magnum rounds (factory or equivalent)  thru it, what kind would you buy? How about accessories,i.e. grips, holsters, speed loaders or shell carriers etc?

5 1/2 inch supperblackhawk or better yet a bisley and have the barrel shortened to 4 5/8s or 5 1/2

I just decided with you and I plunked down some hard earned bucks for my S&W M29 'Trail Boss'. It has a 3 1/2" ported barrel. Barks like a real big dog, and kicks like a much bigger mule. Yes, I carry it, but only with my 44 spec load. Heavy cast loads are not fun, Heavier Jacketed at not much fun either. (let me clarify fun) They are a hoot, but the gun kicks and hurts twice as much as my 375JDJ with an arrestro brake. Muzzle flash at dusk is a sight to behold. I think if I was gonna shoot one regularly, I'd opt for a Taurus Raging Bull with the multi-ports. It's a little heavier and is a little more pleasant to shoot. Plus, it's about 1/2 as much as a S&W. Mine is limited edition though. You did say carry all the time. That's why I got my S&W. I vote for the Ragin Bull 4" as the one to fill your bill. Also, you didn't state, side holster, concealed, shoulder rig. I persoanlly think all 44's are too heavy to carry all the time, inless you pick a Ruger Blackhawk .44. That would be no worse than a .45 Colt or even an ACP Steel framed gun. Carrying one all day will cause a limp!

Well, for "everyday" use when I lived in Alaska I carried a 7-1/2" Super Blackhawk in a shoulder holster.   Not exactly the perfect concealed carry outfit.  If I was to get a new .44 it would probably be a Redhawk with a decent leather belt holster.  (Ya gotta love them Rugers if ya feed 'em a heavy diet).   My $.02 :money:

I would probably opt for the new Bisley Blackhawk in stainless with the 5.5" barrel that they put out for this year.  I've been seeing them for sale on the auctions for $410-$450.  I think its one of the best looking ones that ruger has put out yet.  Here is a link to one that is up for sale on auctionarms.com

I sometimes do carry a 44 mag all the time for 2 or 3 weeks at a time.  When I am out working or hunting or knocking around in the hills I carry a 5.5 inch SBH in stainless.  I carry it on my hip in a heavy leather holster that I designed and built myself.  It has a speed snap and the gun is on my strong side and tilted very far forward.  It stays out of the way because it dosen't hang streight down and I can get to it real fast if I need it.  I'm not a big guy, only 5'8" but I get used to it real fast and forget it is there.  I do spend lots of time on a horse and maybe that is why I don't walk with a limp.  One suggestion when carrying a heavy revolver on your belt is to wear a good pair of suspenders.  I get fatigued when my pants slip down around my knees when I am trying to walk up and down hills or trying to mount a horse.  The suspenders keep the pants and the gun where I want them.

S.B. - you didn't say how much you were going to shoot - that is, whether you were going to shoot magnum loads all day, every day or, if you were going to stuff it full of magnums in the case that you would need a heavy magnum load.

My personal choice, especially if I wasn't going to warp my wrist out with heavy magnum loads all day, would be the S&W Mountain Gun with the slim 4" barrel.  It would be almost identical to the one I have now, which barks and bangs, but puts them all into a nice group at 50 yds.  

If you reload you have many choices for loads for that revolver.  My advice would be some comfortable loads in 44 magnum cases and some heavier ones for backup when you need them.  I'm afraid that if you load up some heavy 44 Specials you might get a lead ring in your chambers which would make it difficult for you to chamber the magnum cases if you needed them.  

I would also get a couple of speed loaders and check into a comfortable pair of grips, sort of like the De-accelerators they use on the Taurus revolvers.  For a holster, a good leather rig that is formed to the specific gun will help but don't forget that carrying some amount of weight on your hip is going to give you a sore back and a limp - that's where the pressure of the belt impacts on your lower back and gives you more than just a pain in the butt.  Another thing on the grip - when I take mine to the range just to bang it around with magnum loads I remove the small Buffalo horn grips I have on there now and put the magna grips back on - if I'm not going to go through more than 4 or 5 cylinders full of the heavies

I have mine in my safe:
Ruger Redhawk 5.5" barrel with Pachmayer Gripper Grips, two speed loaders.  Mine's blue and would prefer it be stainless.  I'd carry it in one on the bandolier holsters.

My impression is you are gonna shoot this gun a lot. If true get the ruger that yuh like ie; SBH,SRH,Bisley or whatever. The S&W will shoot loose with a steady diet of mag. loads day after day.
