Customer service at Green Mountain Barrels?
« on: August 31, 2004, 07:44:11 PM »
Several weeks ago I tried to contact someone at Green Mountain Barrels about making me a 1 1/8" octagon 45 cal--1-18 twist barrel for a muzzle loader. They did make them and unexpectedly dropped them from production, leaving at least 4 companies that I know of empty handed and not able to fill customer orders. I called GM and was sent to voice mail--left a message with my phone number. My call was never returned. I called again about 1 1/2 weeeks ago---the receptionist was on vacation (she left a voice message) and a prompt was there for customer service or sales. Phone tag continued as I got another voice message to leave a voice message. So I got another bright idea to get their attention--I left them a message about what I was looking for along with my e-mail address. Still no response. My friends in the gun world tell me that in general the gun business is very slow right now. Apparently GM is the exception to the rule--too busy to talk to customers. They should take a lesson from Ruger and Hornady who always answer with a live courteous voice to answer questions and fill orders.

You can reach Don Getz directly through this forum.

I wonder if Getz would consider making such a barrel?

Green Mountain has stayed true to form. I got an e-mail a few days ago from their "sales" person to let me know that they no longer make the fast twist muzzle loading barrels and that they would send me a catalog. Their answer was short--to the point and told me what I already knew. No explanation, suggestion, or other solution. I still have not received the catalog and am more convinced than ever that their customer service is very poor. Fortunately I found a .45 cal 1-18 twist barrel 1 1/8 dia. and it works fine.

Call  LC Rice of the Rice Barrel Company. (828) 627-8959.  They can make about any barrel & any twist & a quality made barrel.  LC can usually ship a barrel in 2-3 weeks if he don't have it made, or at least that has been my experience.   Right now the phone lines in his area  are out as off all the storms they had there, so give them a week or so I am told.

Getz can probably make the barrel, but you will be waiting a year to get it....  (no joke)  It took them 3  months to ship me one they said they had in their hands....   But this is old news & they have always been this way on delivery...  Good barrels, but a PITA to get.
