Nut,I live in the woods, anybody can get in anytime I am not here---getting out is another thing.I am 1.6 miles from a county road and the vehicles that belong are known.I cannot stop who breaks in,I can defend my person and my wife where ever we are.The best defense is always a fluid defense.

We all see and do things differently! Personally, I would not want to arm my adversary. Don't be lulled into complacency because of the remote location! If anyone wants to do battle with me, I make them bring their own weapons! Continured peace to you.

Not exactly on topic, but just thought I would mention it. When my two daughters were around 12 or 13 they would ride the bus home from school. Of course we kept the doors and windows locked, but as a precaution, since my wife and I both worked and the girls would be entering an empty house, I always kept a $20.00 bill on the table just inside the door with a heavy flower vase sitting on the end of it. This done as a signal to the girls that when they opened the door. If the money was gone, they were to not enter the house but go the the neighbors house and call me. This was done, assuming if an intruder had entered the home and had seen the easy money, they would take it, at the same time mabe even leave there finger prints on the vase. I guess home security comes in many different disguises. We just do the best we can. Especially with our most precious possessions. :D

When I lived in an apartment I didn't have my gun safe, my alarm system or my dogs...but I did keep my guns locked up.  I went to Lowes and got 4 stainless steel eyebolts (about a 1 inch eye and a 5 inch long course threaded bolt that was about 3/8ths of an inch thick.  I also got a pair of long locks (like a master pad lock but with an adjustable length shank).  The last component was a coiled cable for locking bikes up.  I found some studs in the back of the closet.  I drilled two small holes in each stud about 3 inches apart, one above the other, and screwed the eyebolts into them.  I then put the shank of the padlock down thru the top eyebolt, then the closed loop of the bike cable and down thru the bottom eyebolt.  Then I slid the lock onto the shank.  I slid the cable thru all the trigger guards or some other conveneient location on my guns, and then locked the other side of the cable as described above.

While not perfect, I felt it was better than just leaving them completely unsecured.  Also, the small holes in the back of the closet were easily mudded over when I moved out, and no notice was ever made of it.  I used two eyebolts in each stud to prevent someone from taking a screwdriver and screwing them out.  Pulling them out of the wall would have taken a LOT of strength.  I guess the weak part would have been the locks themselves, but there is only so much you can do.

Cost of the project was, I'm guessing 20 bucks or so, with the locks making up the bulk of that.

Sounds like you had a plan-Stan    I like the self reliant attitude demonstrated when a man uses his brain and makes do with what he has at hand. You never know when or how that type of ingenuity will serve you well.  :D
