1911 stle for a lefty?
« on: November 06, 2004, 05:18:19 PM »
I'm looking for a CCW gun . The choice is 45 acp ,the problem --"Left Handed" I've looked at a few gun and I'm trying to find one that is comfortable in the hand,so far its the 1911 style.  Is there a gun that comes with ambi saftey and slide release? Also I have a 500.00 dollar budget can you help? Thanks ---1Longbow

Given your budget, I would consider a couple of options.  A Springfield Armory GI can be had for under $500, if you look around.  The ambi safety can be added for the cost of the safety ($25 -$50) and fitting it by a competent pistolsmith.

The other option would be to find a used pistol that has one fitted for that price.  Might show wear, but it will when you carry it.  I have seen several over the years on Gunsamerica, AuctionArms, etc.

In the $500.00 price range I agree with dclark. The used market will be your best option. I picked up a Kimber pro-carry a year ago for $525.00 so with a lil looking around you can pick up a nice one at a decent deal. Or, if you are not in a real big hurry it would hurt to save your pennies for a little while longer and buy a new one.

Be Safe,

I'm also a "lefty" and a 1911 fan. My carry gun of choice is a Colt Defender, or stainless light weight Commander.
I would recommend being patient, saving your money, and get a good gun that would be reliable. The only modifications I've done is to install a"Ambi" safety.
