Value of Armour Alloy II Contender
« on: September 09, 2004, 09:56:40 AM »
I have two armour alloy II frames and several barrels (22, 7mm/tcu, JDJ 7/30 waters, 30/30, and 44 mag) that I have had since new.  I was just getting into contenders when these came out but tca discontinued them after 3-4 years.  I have a blued frame and several barrels, but primarily use the armour alloy/7-30waters combo.  I purchased the 30/30 with intentions of sending it to JDJ to be converted to the 309 JDJ but never got around to it and never even mounted it to frame.  Any input would be appreciated.

pharmuse,
I have 2 AA frames, but no AA barrels.  My frames have been converted to accept standard barrels.  The only AA barrel I had was a 10" 44 mag that has been sold.  But it had been converted as well.  I've heard that some people prefer AA barrels because they can be had at a cheaper price than standard barrels.  I just prefer the engraving on these over the SS frames because I don't like that smiling cat head.

 I hear many shops don't rechamber AA barrels as they are too hard on the reamers.. Cbagman

I have a 35 Rem 14" in AA and am very happy with it.  Shooting twice at 1" grouping at 200yds w/reloads.  Thought the first group was a fluke until it happened again.

I just wonder why they are valued less than a blued barrel?  They shoot great.  Maybe it is because of the rechamber problems.  If anyone knows of someone that will rechamber a .35 Rem then let me know.  I have an extra one laying around that I was going to let go, but may end up keeping.

I don't see many other barrels in AA out there.  Anyone know what calibers they were made in?

Oops, found the answer to my own question from a post in 2003.

Flash wrote "No, it was only sold as a handgun and with 10" and 14" barrels. it came in these calibers 22lr, 223, 357 max.,44 mag., 7mm TCU, 7x30, 30-30, 35 Rem., 45 Colt/410...."

Now I'm wondering why you don't see that many for sale?  Maybe they are being sold as stainless?

The Armour Alloy can be mistaken for a stainless steel but only if the seller doesn't know what he has. Once the owner realizes that the barrel wouldn't fit his blue or stainless frame, he would have to lie to the buyers about it being stainless or be totally absent minded about the Armour Alloy. The Armour(aka coating, finish, outside, skin, plating) would not effect the chamber reaming process since it is only on the exterior. Plus, stainless steel would be harder on the reamer than the Armour Alloy and yet the stainless barrels are rechambered. Anything T/C made is going to have some collector value and I would advise you to sit on it unless you need it for the mortgage payment. I bought two AA barrels on Ebay a few years back and both were Super 14's. One was a 44 mag and the other was a 223 and they both went for $200 shipped to my door and insured too. I had them converted by T/C for $25 each before knowing that I could have done it myself. I kind of wish I would have left them original. Don't sell that Armour Alloy!

I bought an Armour Alloy frame that came with two 10" barrels, a 357 Mag and 357 Max.  Bought a NIB 14" 44 Mag AA barrel from Ed's TCs a couple of years ago for $135.

Ed has an Armour Alloy 14" 35 Rem converted listed for $135
