need some bolt forging advise

ok i know it is a touchy subject around here but i have a 1916 spanish mauser well i got it cheap  and i don't think there is much collators value for this so i cut on the stock ,sanded it, stained, reblued the barrel and receiver and it looks real good. well i've shot a few handloads through it and some factory loads through it and it shoots pretty good for those ugly old military sights any way i want to have it drilled and tapped for a scope but the bolt is the kind that go straight half way then turn at a 90 degree angle and go out. so what do i do ? i don't think i can have it forged can i?or should i go to ebay and buy one of those bolts with the straight handle for the 93 action that i see on there and have it forged or cut? please help me here i don't really know what i'm getting into. thank you.

You can have the bolt handle cut off and a new one welded on, that's the way many pros do that job.  I too have an M-1916 and it too is more accurate than the sights allow, but I'm looking more towards an aperature sight than a scope as it was bought for a rainy day hunting gun in the thick stuff.

it will still clear the bolt with a really high set of rings, though you might not want that.  If not, you can still get it forged.  Jim the Boltman (do a search) has Mauser bolt forging listed for $35.  That's a lot cheaper than what I've seen elsewhere, and based on recommendations he's supposed to do excellent work, though I've not had him do any work personally (yet).
