Ok, I have been lucky that a friend, George, I work with who baits bears is going to take me along for a day trip after the bating season to his area so we can try some spot and stalk hunting for New Hampshire Bruins. My hunting partner (also from work, we three are friends,) will be coming along also. One of us will probably stay at the bait site (which of course wont have any bait, but since its going to be so close to the end of bait season my buddy says the bears should still come in and visit the site,) while the other goes with George. Im told to expect shots anywheres from 6 yards to 150 yards. So I have my T/C in .30-06 I plan on using.......
Now the problem. Normaly I would roll my own load, and even had been working on a 165 Nosler Part. load that would have been perfect. Unfortunately just as I began my club began having legal troubles and I am temporarily locked out of my only reliable shooting spot. So now I have no choice but to pick a factory load for this trip, which will be Sunday the 26th of this month (and again, I normaly would be practicing a lot with the load I intend to use but cant. However I have had plenty of experience shooting this gun and am quite comfortable, so all I need is the round and I can work out the ballistics chart.) All this means I only have time for picking one round. I can sneak away to this dirt pit, and the owners allow for limited shooting so as not to disturb the neighbors much. So I will only be able to pick one type of round, get a quick site in and grouping check, and thats it.
So, sorry for the long read, but now can anyone give me a good choice to look at for a factory round to try? The bears, Im told, generally average only about 150-165 lbs with 400 being trophy. Cost is not a problem either, though it needs to be common enough I can hopefuly find it at the gun shop (no time for mail order, thats how quick this trip was offered.)
