Help with gunsmithing
« on: January 17, 2003, 12:34:57 PM »
I dunno why you want or need muzle brakes on either of those rifles.  Neither one is much of a kicker in those calibers.

Adding a muzzle brake or Magna-Porting will greatly increase sideblast and noise.

As for removing the front and rear sights and installing plug screws, you can do that without a gunsmith.  It's easy.  The screws are readily available at gunsmithing supply stores or by mail order.

Help with gunsmithing

I have to agree..  On mild kickers such as these if you are still having a problem, I would suggest a decelerator type recoil pad or perhaps a recoil tamer..  I almost never recommend a brake of any type.  The damage to your ears is just not worth it..  Good luck from the gunnut69

Thanks for the replies...The reason for me wanting to reduce the recoil on these rifles is that I enjoy going to the range often and like staying half the day. I like shooting my hunting rifles, but not for that long. I do have a .243 and .22 but figured I would get more practice in with the rifles I hunt with. Thanks again.

Hey BRL,
Take it from a softy....I don't like bruised shoulders either, but I have a muzzle loader in 50cal. and w/too much triple 7 powder, it's a bear.  I have a slip-on Pachmeyer DeCelerator I use and now I've picked up a PAST shoulder pad from Cabela's.  Check it out on line and buy one.  FORGET THE DAMN Muzzle Break, please!  Your fellow range members wll thank you.
