Archers & Orange...
« on: September 20, 2004, 05:29:33 AM »
Was reading my newest Field and Stream today and a feature was a list of items in your pack for the first day of archery. One of the things they listed was orange. Now from all the time I've spent around archers, I don't think any of them I've met wear orange. But the author had a good point...u'll sound like a buck and maybe look like one (rattling antlers) if you're on the ground (I guess this applies to those only hunting on the ground) and "if you value your life, you should wear orange on your chest and head". Extreme? Reasonable? Did the editors suddenly become potheads? Lemme kno what ya think!  :D

I would only wear orange if I were in the woods during gun season and I was using a bow, plus it is the law in Delaware to wear orange if bow hunting during gun season. Also, I hunt 95% of the time on privet land and only a few of us hunt there. I don't hunt with foolish people.  :D

I too only wear it while moving during the Fall turky season when it overlaps archery here in Pa and also small game...But it comes off when I get to my tree or my ground stand location..I also only hunt private land and I really dont see how an archer is gonna mistake you for a deer if you are close enough for a bow shot so I dont see the nessessity...But I do have it on from head to toe during gun...To many dang fools out there  If I could find orange boots Id wear them too :-D Never know them Dark boots may make some moron out there think Imma deer :-D

U kno cam, I can't say as I could blame ya. I used to put an old blaze orange coat on my dog when we used to go for walks in the woods during deer season (even tho it would be odd for a deer to be walking right along side a person :? ). But once again, dem morons will do anything. But...it's our job to police the ranks, right? I pray to God I never become one of them "morons".  :D
