NOT blowing up the new lead pot
« on: September 09, 2004, 01:39:48 PM »
If you've been with us for a bit you know I poured the last of the lead WW into my casting pot and along with it a goodly amout of water.  Still have the 5 gallon bucket to remind me that I'm not dead or blind.

Well, I traded my lead supplier about 500  1oz shotgun slugs for another bucket.  And as we did this at the range it sat in the back of my truck while it rained that day.

Yes Virginia, water again got into the bucket (ominous music at this point)

And I'm casting and adding WW to the pot and skimming the trash off and casting and adding and skimming, etc.

All of a sudden my hand is wet as I go into the bucket.  So, not being my Mamma's dumbest boy, I remember the explosion and the pain and the "woomp sound and the pain and the ruined tennies, shorts and shirt and the pain.

At that point I cast down the rest of the melted lead, pour off the last little bit and with an empty, dry pot add the wet WW and they steam off long before they melt--one explosion.

Since I didn't add the wet WW after the lead began to melt I got about 12# each time and had to do it a total of 3 times.  Took a bit of time but no PAIN!

CR, you do like to live dangerously.  Me, being more of a scaridy cat, would have dumped the stuff out on the lawn to dry in the sun before trying to melt them.

Well, Cheyenne, in my admittedly limited 51 year experience, it's always come back the next day!
