Questions about the .270 encore package
« on: September 25, 2004, 05:11:11 PM »
Last winter I purchased a stainless framed encore (Which pitted immediately, but that's another subject) with a 7mm-08 and 1.75-4 tasco scope.  I absolutely loved shooting it and it was a tack driver.  Recoil was very mild and controllable.  Unfortunately we had a house fire and I lost all my guns.  Insurance is replacing my firearms including my encore.  I've been thinking of just saving some time and purchasing the package .270 but I'm wondering what the recoil is compared to the 7mm-08.  I often hunt out of box blinds with windows cut out and I don't want to smack my gun on the top of the window when shooting.  I'm sure the 7mm-08 would have no problems because muzzle rise was very little.  Anyone with experiance with both calibers could you please help?

Questions about the .270 encore package

Well I decided to go with the .270 package.  I bought a Lee handpress, .270 die kit, and auto primer for $65.  I figured I would reload my own hunting loads and I can adjust down to tame recoil if necessary.  Anyone have any recomendations for a deer loads and coyote loads?  I may have to load down for deer if recoil is too sharp and I'm planning on 150 grains for deer.  I see that there are 90 grain bullets and I was thinking of reloading those for coyote?  I'm not concerned about recoil when hunting outside of a blind so I could load hot with the 90's.  Will I find accellerated barrel wear shooting 90 grains than 130's?  I'm not real familiar with reloading so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.  I've heard loading really fast light rounds can damage a barell over time?

Don't have a 270 Encore myself but I believe there is data in the Hornady Manual 5th edition in the handgun section.

I also suggest you get the Hornaday books, both volume 1 and volume 2. It has everything you need as far as loads and data are concerned.

GET BOTH VOLUMES!

Good luck,
