Hey Guys:

Just got back from the range shooting my 257 Weatherby Accumark for the first time...I have a question for you all...my first 3 shots with the factory 100 grain load...all 3 shots were touching...but after that the group started opening up some...by the 10th shot...the group had moved horizotally to the right almost 3".....I'm guessing this is a bedding problem when it heats up...does any of yours do the same thing...that much...or is it time to do some stock work....it's the factory synthetic  piller bedded stock that's on it...

Thanks

Mac

Weatherby cartridge's all seem to walk the bullets after the barrel heats up.This is why Weatherby uses 3 shot groups for there factory testing. The best thing I have found is to let the barrel cool after 3 or 4 shots (like a high velocity varmint rifle). I would shoot it some more and see how it performs. If you have any questions about it I would give Weatherby a call, they are great people and really like to hear from customers. Also, the 257 is in my opinion the greatest open country deer/antelope cartridge made. Oh the all 3 shots touching is normal for Weatherby's.

Mac11700,

You have to let the barrel cool down between shots for group comparisons.  Outside of that if you still think you have a problem call Weatherby.  They will do right by you.  And as "257 weatherby" had to say it's normal for 3 shots to be touching for Weatherby's.  Lawdog

Lawdog:

I know your a fan of these rifles...have you tried any of the new Barnes triple shocks in your handloads yet...I picked up the #3 Barnes manual and a box of the 100 grain boattails to try out...also had to bit the bullet as they say and ordered a couple of new boxes of brass......

Mac11700,

I am working on loads using the TSX's but nothing really to report just yet.  As soon as I get back home I will be doing some more load work.  Lawdog

MAC11700.... Had the same problem with my .257 Weatherby Magnum Mark V Euromark. I glassed the recoil lug and first two inches of the barrel and floated the barrel. Now it's very consistent with a max loaded 115 gr. Nosler Partition. It groups 3 shots in 5/8" at 100 yards.
