Hi trapperzack!
As you have noticed, we are blessed on Graybeard's forum to have a number of Alaskins who are actively involved in hunting, fishing and trapping.  They'll help you out and give you the necessary info to steer you into the right areas.

However, you'll need to concentrate on getting yourself properly educated in high school, get good grades, and when the time comes, maybe you can get a schalarship to the University of Alaska/Fairbanks like a young friend of mine did and learn first-hand what its like up there!

:D Zach,

Try talkin' with these folks.  http://www.alaskatrappers.org/  I've visited with them at hunting shows and they're very helpful.

Zack,
If you want to contact your school administration advisor and ask about getting information on the University of Alaska they can send you information on their scholorship programs and brochures on campus life.
Good Luck and if I can be of further help, send me a PM and let me know and I will contact my friend, Chip.  He is an automotive engineer with Daimler-Chrysler Corp.  He gets to go to Germany and Europe often to drive all the new, hot "playtoys".

Just finish high school down there and come up here for college in Anchorage (UAA). Very simple if you ask me. You can go to school and at the same time enjoy what Alaska has to offer. Though, you might find it hard to do things with school work in the way, but you can always work around that.

Nah, go to UAF in Fairbanks, where the REAL Alaska is...  Sorry, Moose-hunter, couldn't resist as UAF is my Alma Mater.

Once you are finished with high school you should be thinking real hard about college.  And the U of Alaska is a dandy.  Think wildlife management or geology if you want a good job in the outdoors.  If you are inclined towards math, land surveying is a good profession, and there aren't that many young people going into it to take over from us older folks.  But the work is outdoors and fun, and there is a world of opportunity out there.  You just have to bite the bullet and get those extra four years of education in.  At your age that looks like an eternity (heck, that's almost 1/4 of your time on earth now) but when you get to be older it really isn't that long.  And it can be something fun too.  That's what got me to Alaska almost 40 years ago, and I had a ball.
