Hawks Where to buy?
« on: September 18, 2005, 07:49:19 PM »
I've read quite a few posts about carrying a tomahawk with ya in the woods or on the hunt, but where can you find one if you've never bought one?  Any good advice on finding quality hawks or do you have to make a nice one to own one?  Just curious.

I had an copy of Blade Magazine that had a list of most current hawk makers, but, of course, can't find it.  The one current manufacturer of traditional hawks that I see advertised a lot is Cold Steel.  Check out their website.  One custom maker that comes to mind is Joe Szalski of Wappinger Falls, NY.   He is an ABS Mastersmith, and makes beautiful stuff, but is quite expensive.  Snce the appearance of the movie "The Patriot", interest in hawks has increased, and there are a number of other makers out there also.  Try doing a seach on Custom Tomahawks, Tomahawk Manufacturers or, maybe, just Tomahawks(be a huge listing).  Mine belonged to my Dad, and I know he bought it back in the early 50's.  Has no name on it.

I bought a Buck Hawk from http://www.fortturner.com/. Really like it and Dana is good to deal with. Check out his offerings.

Dixie Gun Works has carried hawks for years.

Mine has worked well since 1985.  Had to change the handle once, but the blade holds an edge well.
