Are they designed to perform at 8x57 Mauser or 8mm Rem Mag velocities?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,
Ian

Haywire - what weight are they?  Are they a ballistic tip type bullet?  I would say that anything heavier than 200 gns might be oriented more toward the capabilities of the 8mm Magnum.  There are some new bullets out for the 8x57 that are designed for that cartridge and allow the handloader to enjoy the full capabilities of that cartridge.  It is one of my favorites.

I'll bet those bullets are oriented to the 8x57.  There is not a lot of traffic for the 8mm Magnum these days.  Just a guess though.  Mikey.

I have read on other forums that quite a few use the Nosler BT 180g bullet, in the 8x57. I am currently using Hornady 170g RN, and 195g psp in my 8x57. I also have some Norma 196g boat tails that I have not had time to try yet. I have a new hunter coming with us this year, and he will be using my 8x57 with the 170g load. It has taken 2 whitetails so far, very clean fast kills.

Sorry, I was referring to the 180gr Ballistic Tip.  You know, the ones that Midway and Nosler site show as backordered till Dec and Graf doesn't show at all.     I was looking for something in the 180gr and was glad to find them till I saw the Backorder sign next to them.  I'll be using them in a Yugo M48 if I can find a box of them somewhere.

Haywire - the 180s are designed for the 8x57 and should be an excellent performer.  Good luck.  Mikey.

I use the 180 grain Nosler BTs in my sporterized (scoped) K98 and I get 3 shot groups right at 1" with them. I also get the same result with the Speer 200 grain Spitzers.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.
