Yep, that's a good low tech. alarm system. I have one rigged the same way in my boathouse. Scares the bejesus out of the ducks and occasional beaver that might swim in under the doors!

ckinght98, oh yes there is egress out of the bedroom no trouble there 4 large windows and a fire ladder to toss out the window hell i even have a scott pak in the room fully charged ready to go though i live alone i do have the family or vistitors on occasion.smoke alarms outside the door.
