209 X .410 Primers
« on: October 07, 2004, 07:59:34 AM »
I've heard that .410 primers are 209 primers that aren't as hot as regular 209 primers.  If so, using the .410 primers would accomplish the same thing as switching to the .25 acp primers.  Also, where do we get them? I've asked my local gunshops and they don't know where to get them.  Any help or advice?

TomVan, I have used them for several years and i really prefer them.  I have never tried a .25 ACP so I can not comment on that that the 209-4's work really well for me.

Several people have indicated that they could not find them.  I e-mailed Remington and they assured me they were still being produced but that the have recently made a production change and instead of being Remington 209-4's they were now receiving new labeling STS 209-4.

I last got my Remingtons from my local Wal-Mart, but right now he is having trouble getting the new ones.  I am going to check a with one of the reloading vendors at my local trap club and see if he can come up with some also.

If you find them I think you will like them...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I have used Remington 209-4 primers the past 3 years and they work fine. But I saw on a couple of forums that Remington no longer makes them. I sent a e-mail to Remington 2 weeks ago and they said they no longer make them. When my 209-4's are all I plan to use CCI primers, that is the next coolest primer. I would think long and hard about a conversion of any kind, to much involved. Besides you have to clean your rifle after you shoot it anyway.

I could never find the 209-4s so I never tried them.  I went the ACP route instead, and have no regrets.  Blowback in my Omega was reduced to near zero, priming/depriming was a little easier, and accuracy seemed to improve a bit.  Sure you have about $70 in upfront costs for the plug and brass, and you need a priming tool.  But the primers are cheaper if you shoot a lot also.
