22 cb's

I really like shooting cb's, because I can shoot them without terribly disturbing the wildlife around my place.  Its nicer on my ears too! Now I know 22s arnt that bad for noise, but when you do a LOT of plinking, cb,s are nice.  high quality low velocity bullets can be really accurate at short distances too.  oh yeah, I like the cb longs.  same size as a long rife shell!

My question is, Why are cb's 4 times more expensive than long rifle 22 shells when they are obviously cheaper to manufacture?

Does equipment and materials exist to reload you own 22 rimfire shells?

It's called market demand or market saturation.

The more demand there is for an item, ther more that item is produced, and the more produced realizes a lower price because the amortization is spread out more.

The other reason is that not all the .22 rimfire manufacturers have CB and BB in their product listing.  If you have the only game in town, you can charge more...

I like CB longs too.  I use them for close up "bird murderin", as Badnews Bob calls it.  They work well up to about 20 yds and you don't have to worry about any unintended fallout a mile or more away.   I tried the "colibri" that aguila makes, but they're too weak. They're intended for pistols and it seems rifle length barrels take a lot of the punch out of them.

Learned to shoot with CB's at 25 cents a can and I was paid 5 cents a Gopher[used the old Banana trick] in a  heavly used Falling block Marlin.

Ever consider an air rifle?

While I never have used bb or cb much I have gone to air rifles for hunting near civilization.  The types of guns and power ranges are amazing.  And don't expect to save money on the gun - good ones can cost quite a bit.  But a springer like BSA Supersport  or Beeman R9 can be pretty potent for small game at 20 to 40 yards. I'm pretty sure they are much more quiet than all firearms.

I like the CB longs also. Have you tried the REM subsonics ? They are a little more noisy but less expensive than the CB's.

I really like the Agulia subsonics, don't cost much and shoot great noise is way down also, Haywire accuses me of haveing a silencer on my CZ cuz its so quite. As for air rifles I love'em but my sring guns are louder than my CZ shooting subsonics.
