I need some advice. I may get to get out of middle TN this year and I'm wondering if someone can recommend a spot of public land I can camp near and try hog hunting. Maybe rifle, maybe ML. Is there a good spot near Dale Hollow? Big South Fork? anybody invite other residents over for hunting on their land? I'm not going to pay for a hunt but advice from an outfitter is welcome.

I'm north of Chattanooga, and haven't seen any hog signs around here. I'd be curious if Polk co. has very many hogs. I've heard the Great Smokey mountians are haveing a terrible problem from erosion caused by hog rutting, and was thinking there must be some hogs over this way that fellows like you and I can get into. Have you found a place yet?

Take a look at your TWRA hunting guide for Tellico. They have several non-quota hunts this year. Indian Boundary campground is available during these hunts. The campground is operated by the Forestry Service. If the main campground is closed, campers use the "overflow" area, which is primative camping (a couple of outhouses and some well pumps). If the main campground stays open this year, they will have a bathhouse and camper pads. They used to be closed during the winter, but I heard that they started staying open for the hunts. I need to call and check on this because I'll probably be hunting up there some this year. Tellico hunting areas have good road access, but they don't allow ATVs.

Chris,
What kind of camping facilities are available at BSF? Do they have cabins, or are motels close by? I've thought about trying BSF this year. Do they allow ATVs?
Any info would be appreciated.

I've looked through the WMA Hunting season guide and see nothing listed for Big South Fork. Can you tell me where it's at, is it a WMA and could it be listed as something else? Sorry for my confusion

Ok, found it! I remember being in the Cumberland gap area in Dec. 1975. If I remember correctly the hills are steep, but that has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.......

Thanks for the info. I may have to take a ride up that way this Fall to check out the area. Glad to hear about the restrooms and showers, because I use a tent for camping.

You might want to look at the TWRA guide for Catoosa WMA. They have some non-quota hunts this year. They do have some hogs.

Well, when you guys get a hunt planned, let me know.....I'd love to have someone to sit around the campfire with......Big South Fork sounds great!
