1894S Any good?
« on: December 18, 2004, 02:16:15 PM »
I was at the shooting range today (inside) and the gun shop that runs it.
Was looking at the Marlins, had a hankerin for the 38Spl. CC, but the man behind the counter said they did not have any right now and the price was $700.00 tax included.  :shock:
They had a 1894FG in 41 but the wood did not match, buttstock was real dark and the forearm was real light. Pass on that one.
He did tell me that about an hour and a half ago a man came in and traded in an 1894S for a handgun. He said the man is a big gun collector and he remembered the guy buying this gun about two years ago. The salesman also said that you ought to see the wood on it. I said could I look at it. He went in the back and brought it out. Fellas, I'm telling you, the wood looks as if its off a $1000.00 custom rifle. Like one of them Parker-Hale Shotguns. BEAUTIFUL  :eek:
The blueing is deep blue, real deep. I asked how much?
He said he would sell it for $400.00, tax and all.
I really don't think the owner ever fired it, no wear on any of the metal surfaces.
I know it's got the Micro-Groove rifling not the Ballard type.
So I wanted to ask you Marlin owners, Do ya think it's a fair price or too high?
Since I traded my Marlin 1894FG to my father, I'm really needing another Marlin real bad.

Dennis, I can't believe you're asking us this question......the way you described that rifle, your inner voice is screaming at you to GO GET THAT GUN but you're not listening.  Forget your holiday guilt, and go get it.  At least put some cash down on it.  If you don't you'll regret it as long as you have a memory.

GO NOW.  Before someone else beats you to it!   :eek:

Dennis, if you don't want it, send me a PM with the shop's address and phone number. The S is basically the FG with no pistol grip. With the right load and bullet the micro grooves are very accurate. 8)

papa john and JOE MACK;

Please forgive me by not clarifing, the rifle is a 44 mag not a 41.
Man I wish it was a 41mag.
But it is a beautiful rifle. I shoot 44 mag also, have a H&R 44mag single shot and a S&W 629 Classic w/ a five inch barrel.
So do you think it's a good price? I put fifty bucks down but I can get my money back.
A response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

De41mag,
Go for it.  If you don't you will eventually develop a flat forehead.  This will happen, because everytime you think of passing it up you will slap yourself in the head.  This can turn into a serious condition and you could develope some brain damage.  So, for your own well-being you should buy that rifle.  See...it's simple... it's a personal health issue. :grin:
After you get it send us some photos.
Best,
TnNuc

Big K and TennesseeNuc;

Thanks for your help in my decision. I'll get it, if only for my health,  :wink:
Have a fellow interested in my Ruger Mod77 MKII in 7.62X39. If he buys it I'll get the Marlin off layaway, but now I'm stuck with another problem, I think I'll have to have a 1894PG just because of the Ballard Rifling.
Is this the start of a sickness, is there a name for wanting more than one Marlin???? Marlinitis or something?  :shock:
Again thanks for your help.
