Kerry: I Love My Illegal Chinese Assault Rifle

John Kerry blasted President Bush two weeks ago for failing to push for an extension of the assault weapons ban, saying he's never met anyone who wanted to use an AK-47 to shoot a deer.

But that was before Kerry admitted in a magazine interview that he owns a Chinese assault rifle.

Story Continues Below

"My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam," Kerry tells Outdoor Life in its October issue. "I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."
The Kerry campaign stonewalled questions on their candidate's illegal gun stash, with spokesman Michael Meehan telling the New York Times only that his boss was a registered gun owner in Massachusetts.

Meehan said that Kerry had been unable to respond to questions about his banned weapon because his voice was too hoarse. The Kerry aide refused to return follow-up calls.

"It's O.K. for John Kerry to own these kinds of firearms, but it's not O.K. for John Q. Public?" complained National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, in an interview with the Times.

"He certainly owes people an explanation as to why there's a double standard," Arulanandam added, noting that if the top Democrat brought his illegal assault rifle home from the war as a souvenir he could be subject to court-martial.

His press team has already corrected his statement and said he meant a rifle with the following features:

--  bolt-action military rifle
--  has no make or model markings on it
--  first manufactured in Russia more than 100 years ago
--  used by the North Koreans and the Vietcong

Now, I don't know which is worse.  If he actually didn't know enough about that gun and thought it was an assult rifle, or if he actually knows about the gun and still considers it an assault rifle (it sounds like a Mosin-Nagant).  If it's the latter then I'd hate to see any version of the AWB that he'd draft.

You do notice that in every "pro-firearm" picture he's in he never has anything other than a double-barrel of some sort.  Who wants to bet that eventually they'll be defining an assault weapon as "any firearm capable of loading additional rounds from a fixed or removeable magazine".

Yep, a 100y-o MN "given to him by a friend years ago" is an "Assault Rifle" (either that, or he's lying to us AGAIN). We already know he interrupted his campaign to rush back to DC to cast a Senate vote for banning 30-30 ammo. It's hard to imagine a worse Socialist than the one we have in the White House now, but if worse exists, it's Kerry.
