Just checked my records for the DNR survey and so far I've hunted 35.5 hours, sighted 3 bucks & 21 does, and have nothing in the freezer
Did try a shot at a big doe last week and misjudged yardage. Held low and the shot was longer than I thought, so the arrow passed under her. At least my bowhunting record of never loosing a wounded one is still intact
Only had one nice buck in easy range so far, and I couldn't get the angle I wanted when he was in a shooting lane. Perfect broadside when brush was between us, but quartering toward me, or facing me, in the lanes.
With 3 1/2 months left I'm still picky about what I'll shoot, but as the time ticks away, my standards lower

Congrats Gary. Too bad on the miss wabi but it happens to all of us at one time or  the other. I have not pulled a trigger yet but figure my time is comming. THe deer have not been moving but with the leaves falling and the rut coming and a cold spell setting in it has to get better! :)
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Took a drive last night and saw thirteen deer. It was windy after I got to where I wanted to go it started raining.  The deer were so wild as soon as they saw me they were gone. 100 to a 150 yards away and more they would start running as soon as they seen the truck it was raining out so I did not get too excited about it anyway as tracking a deer in the rain sucks and not good as you could loose the blood trail though I have done it in the past and have always found the deer. Also it seems if the deer dies and with the wet weather if you do not find it right away it tends to sour the meat. I do not like to waste a animal so I can just shoot it so rain tends to temper my archery hunting. Gun hunting is a different story as  most deer drop fast when hit in the right place so a light rain does not bother me then.

Ayep that rain do temper the archery shooting a little, like ya stated can loose the blood trail if its raining to easy. The weather has cooled to the 40's at night here and been in the upper 50's lower 60's this past week not to bad.

I think the middle of this week it's going back up fer a few days, indian summer I reckon. Well got till end of Jan. so no real big hurry to get another one as yet.

As I said in my previous post:
Quote

Had a nice 8 point buck inside 20 yards yesterday evening, but he never offered a good shot    So when a fat young doe gave me a perfect broadside view at 11 yards a few minutes later I quickly decided to fill a tag
I was shooting my Excalibur Exocet and SlickTrick broadheads on Laser II carbon arrows which give me 302 fps. At 11 yards the arrow was through both lungs quickly, and she bolted about 5 yards and looked around. She then walked into some tall weeds about 10 yards away and laid down. Of course she never got back up. I was grateful for a quick death for her, and gave thanks to her and creator for the gift of meat for me and my family. With only 2 tags here in my home county I can be picky about the next one now
Of course there's the special primative season next week in the neighboring county where a third deer is legal this year, so I'll probably give it a try with the muzzleloader.

Good shot wabi, Congrat's!  I be around a good size urban area I can get too in about 20 min. of driving time so I am good for 3 more doe. I am not sure as yet inless it would go to the needy as I have enough in the frezz. now.

My outlook is to see my wife's buck tag used by the end of Jan.

Cincinnati-Dayton is the closest thing I see with a urban deer unit for you, would be a good drive. Columbus has a good size area.

 I arrowed a nice, mature eight point buck on Wednesday morning. (Clermont county, Ohio)His rack is not that big, but guessing by the condition of his teeth he may have been four years old. My friends scale only went to a hundred and fifty pounds and he pegged that. How much does a deer's guts weigh? I hit him a lil' high and quartering away. He went about twenty yards, then crossed a fence to go another fifty yards or so. I knew it was a good hit but it sure was a looooonnnng half hour wait to start trailing him. Now I can start filling those urban tags...

Congrats chadwimc!
I sometimes see some good deer along SR32 in Brown & Clermont counties. They sure need reduced in numbers by something other than vehicles. Good luck on filling the urban tags!
