I will be picking the Revelation 200 up for my son in a couple weeks. It is in 30-30. When did Western Auto quit selling these? I am trying to get an idea how old it is. It is in great shape.

Rogmatt: I think Western Auto stopped selling guns after the 68 gun control act took effect, which is too bad - you could get anyting you wanted from their catalogs. HTH. Mikey.

Mikey: It was later than that; in 1973 I bought a couple of guns @ a Western Auto® in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

:grin: Howdy.. What is the serial number? They run same as Marlin. If the 1st two digits are 69 or 70 it was made in 1969 or 1970. If they are 29 and lower, 29 is 1971, 28 is 1972, 27 is 1973 etc. I think this is right.. cbagman

According to Brophy, Marlin stopped supplying guns to Western Auto in 1965. They may have had stock leftover long after that.

Forgive my ignorance as I am more of a shotgun man than centerfire rifle.
Is there a concern on older rifles that they could be "shot out"? How many rounds would it take to shoot out a Revelation 200 (336) possibly bought in the late 60s or early 70s?? I will post pic next week of it when I pick it up.

It would take 10,000s of rounds. Most common concern would be poor cleaning and rust or corrosion in the barrel.

Got the gun. Took it to the range. It has an old Tasco 4x40 scope on it. Them old scopes are built heavy!! We are going to put a new scope on it, but today we put 3 rounds within 2" after adjustments at 100 yards. That scope will now set on the shelf as a relic of old times. Scope must be over 40 years old. We are now going to steel wool all metal, re-blue, strip wood, refinish. Will post photo.
