This weekend I finally got to shoot my Encore 209. I was very impressed. I read that it could be finicky, so I picked up a couple different types of bullets and decided to try Triple 7 with TC Mag Express 240 gr sabots first.....it ended up being all I tried.
I didn't put to much effort into distance or setup due to time. Just wanted to first get the scope close and get it on paper. I set up at 45 yards. That's where the majority of my shots will be (I hunt thick woods).
First shot about 11 inches low. I adjusted the scope, second shot 4 inches high, adjusted scope, third shot 1 inch high. 4th and 5th were touching the 3rd. I've got Warne QD rings and wanted to check them out. Took the scope off, shot a couple with iron sights, all about 2 inches high and in a 1 inch circle. Put the scope back on, next shot touching the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I was impressed. About 3 more shots with the same results on new paper. I ran a solvent rag between each shot followed by a dry patch. The rest was simply kneeling and resting the rifle near the action on the seat of a 4 wheeler.
I didn't get to shoot anymore because of time. I will over the next few weeks but here's my question.......what kind of bullet drop/rise can I expect out to 100 yards? Any info on fps for the 90gr 777 and the 240gr XTP? This was all at 45 yards and most of my shots will be there, but there's always a chance that a long one will show up. I'll shoot at longer distances soon, but I'm wondering now...
Thanks for any insight and info.
