Nikon 800 vs. Bushnell 800 or Yardage Pro
« on: September 26, 2004, 08:52:13 AM »
Hey all.  Rifle Whitetail season is about a month away here and I decided to purchase a rangefinder this year.  The temps are around 0 degrees F, so I need something that will work for me consistantly in cold weather.  Have narrowed it down to the Nikon 800 Rangefinder and the line of Bushnell Yardage Pro's or 800..

Here are the two I am taking a look at:

http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/897074 - Bushnell Y. Pro
http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/408216 - Bushnell 800
http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/275841 - Nikon 800

Nikon really worth the price difference there?  Hmm

What do you think?  Any first hand experiences would be great.  :D

i just recently bought a nikon buckmaster 800 (i am guessing it is the exact same one you are referring to??!!).......i bought it used for $99!!, wow when i saw the deal on ebay i couldnt pass it up, it is great, fits my needs perfect, i hunt in LA so the temps will never get that cold, but i am guessing it would be able to stand up to the extreme conditions. Me personally, i rather nikon products over bushnell, idk y, i just do..........the rangefinder works great, good optics, etc, everything that is stated.......ik someone will say you need to look at the lieca's, but i dont think they can be that much better for the price differnce........now if you will be using the rangefinder at night then get the leica because of the red display screen, but if not i would go with the nikon!! just my  :money:  :D

good luck, any other opinions!!??

oh i just checked those websites you had listed (i guess i missed them), but the nikon one is a little different than the one i have.....idk if that makes a difference in your decision.......

mine looks alot like the Bushnell 800 compact (exact same body style and eveything).......its just a Nikon ()

I have heard that the scout is great, and can be used using only one hand.......but on long distance ranging it is very hard to keep steady.

The Nikon you listed is actually probably better than the one I have!! AND it is not much more expensive than the others you mentioned!!

Mine is the Buckmaster edition, yours will be the Monarch, so the optics will probably a little better!! Good luck with the purchase, and i hope my advice helped!!

HuntingGuy:

I found one of the new Nikon rangefinders at a local gunstore a few weeks ago. Tested it out and then took it home.  I am pleased with it so far including ranging for bow practice and general woods use.
