Looking for: Handloader Magazine article
« on: October 10, 2004, 09:17:50 AM »
The October - November 2004 issue of Handloader Magazine has an article titled “Loads for Lever Actions” in the Reloader's Press section by author Dave Scovill.

I have gone to several newsstands and a large bookstore in the city, and no-one carries this issue.
Does anyone subscribe to the Handloader Magazine, and can give me a synopsis of the article?

Again that is the:
Handloader
Ammunition Reloading Journal
October - November 2004
Volume 39, Number 5

Of particular interest, is if any 130 grain loads are listed.

Thanks!

I get Hand Loader but I'm not sure if I've gotten that issue yet.  Have you tried to check out Wolfe Publishing web site?  Better yet subscribe - Rifle and Handloader are my all time favorite magazines:

I have it and will be glad to snail mail you a copy. Haven't read it in awhile but I believe the article focuses on function difficulties encountered when handloads are shorter or longer than factory loads with emphasis on the Win 92 and "Alaskan" conversions of the 71. That is, I don't remember a lot of advice about making loads that shoot well.

Yes, the article focuses on proper feeding of handloads, which can actually be flung out of the ejection port without even being chambered. No load data in the article.

The article appears to be of no use to me then.
Thanks for saving me $6.00 + postage!

Guess I'll have to look for loads for 130 grain bullets elsewhere.

If anyone wants to post some load info, that would be nice.
It would be for a 130gr in Winchester .30-30.

The two powders I'd like to use for the 130gr Speer are W-748 and AA-2520.
W-748 has been said to be THE powder for .30-30, but many have spoken well of Accurate 2520 and high preformance loads for the 130gr. bullet.

Some have recommended Reloder-15, but that advice really seems to violate the "smaller bullet = faster powder principal".

Accurate says:

Hornaday 130 SSP OAL=2.625"
Powder 2520
Start Charge 33.3 grains Velocity=2088
Max Charge 37.0 grains Velocity=2270

Good luck.
