The 7mm Mag. will have 10 maybe 15% more energy than a .280 so at worst it will have commensurate more recoil and certainly not 2x.  I use a recoil shield for range work to take the bite out of shooting and prevent flinch habits from taking root.  I hardly notice recoil in the field.

:)       With the simms recoil pad, my 7mm encore kicks about like my 308 pump gun.   Doesn't hardly kick at all.

Go to "Handloads.com."  They provide a recoil calculator as well as many other ballistics tables.  Good luck.

I have both.  With the same bullet the 7mm is around 18-19 and the 280 about 16.  But to me the 280 feels like the recoil is much less.

My Encore has the synthetic stock. With my 06 barrel it was brutal even with the Simms pad.  If I were to get a magnum I would go with a wood stock. I love my 7-08 and lighter loads on my Encore though. :D
