Remington Synthetic stocks???
« on: October 04, 2004, 10:24:37 PM »
I see disparaging remarks about the "tupper ware" stocks some makers put on their guns.  Does this include the Remington stocks like their standard m700 BDL rifles?

What are the main objections?

Do they hold zero are they accurate?

Are they durable?

thank you.

Dand - I have to say that the factory synthetic stocks leave a lot to be desired. I had one on my Rem700 BDL SS and I quickly replaced it with a McMillian fiberglass stock. The factory stock looked and felt cheap and the recoil pad was as bad as the one's Marlin uses for their rifles. Believe me you don't want to touch off a .300 RUM with this pad! I'll sell you mine cheep if you want one!  CEJ...
If I can't take my rifles with me, I don't want to go!

The factory stocks are flimsy and way too fleible for my taste.  They also have a tendency to break with use.  A shop where I worked for everal years hads a plastic barrel of broken synthetic stocks that we'd replaced, most were remington...

thanks for the info. those Rem stocks on Ebay sure are tempting especially when I see them go for about $35 or a little more.

But  I need a truly sturdy stock.  My 23 year old HS Precision Fiberthane stock has held up well but is getting pretty battered from a number of falls, pounding around in my boat and a few airplanes, about 2,000 rounds of 300 win mag - not to mention spillage of cleaning chemicals.  Maybe I better stay with HS or other tough brand.

I still remember how its felt to land hard on my back on top of that gun and scope.  Gotta say the stock and Leupold took it better than my back.
