I was one of the first to buy a guidegun, picked it up in Kittery Maine, this was a ported 1895M guidegun, I'm a reloader and I can tell you the case is much stronger, thicker webwalls, In tern the 45/70 case can hold more water weight a few grs more powder, the 450 case has much better construction compared to a 45/70 case, The 450 Marlin seems to be a better shooter than any 45/70 I ever shot, I'm grouping clover leaf at 100 yards using a Hornady 350gr FN Interlock using 50gr H4198, CCI mag primers 2180 fps, seems the 450 Marlin creates more power with less powder as well, Its all chambering, dame thing is loud when you let off, if you don't have ear protection on your ears will ring for hours not good, does keep the muzzle down. I love my 1895M guidegun, I have harvested a Black bear and a German boar so far using my reloads. Had no problem expiring my game. I would never turn back, I just never liked the 45/70 case, always had a weak look to it, you can pinch one between your fingers, try doing that with 450 brass;) I know there is those die hards that just love there 45/70, thats fine as well. To each there own ;) Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

time will tell on the 450 marlin and I do hope it has a long life.I shoot a marlin 45/70 ltd II and a ruger # 1 in 45/70.the 45/70 does anything I need a rifle to do.
I just hope the people with the 450 marlin don't run into the same deal as the 307 and 356 winchester rounds.great rounds good rifles and now pretty much dead and buried.

Paparock,

Anyone have any experience with the .450 Marlin in the Browning BLR? How does the range and drop off of velocity plus energy compare when pointed bullets come into the picture?

While I don't have a BLR I do have a Ruger No. 1 and a Win. M70 that are chambered for the .450 Marlin.  I use nothing but "spitzer" type bullets(Barnes) in them and have compared the difference in drop between the flat nose and the Barnes X bullet.  Both bullets were of the same weight, 350 grains, and at 300 yards the difference was the flat nose bullet(Hornady) hit 7 inches lower than the Barnes X.

I don’t think it will,  More and more rifle manufactures are starting to chamber rifles for the .450 Marlin.  Personally I believe that Marlin made a mistake in bringing it out designed for the lever actions.  The .450 really shows it’s stuff when loaded with “spitzer” type bullets.  In a both action it is suitable for anything that walks in North America and most things that live in Africa.  Small groups and tight lines to all.  Lawdog

I've always been impressed with Garrett loads.  They are incredible thumpers for the .45-70.  They even offer a "trap door" load with pressure around 28,000 cup.  This loads is a 420 grain hard lead going 1650 or so.  Good stuff.
