Found your forum and have looked for a couple days and finally joined.
Have found very interesting subjects and will probably ask alot of questions later. But just wanted to say hey and if anyone needs any historical data on artillery I may be able to help. Stationed at Ft. Sill, OK (home of the Artillery) and do some work at the museum in my free time (in between trips to IRAQ) Also I have a coehorn mortar and will post pics when I get a chance. Nice to find like minded individuals, even if we scare others.[/list]

A little info my mortar is shooting quart paint cans full of concrete (approx. 5.5lbs)

Nice looking piece. What's the bore diameter? Is that a full scale coehorn?

The bore is 4 3/8. I made it to fit the ammo I was going to use (quart paint cans filled with concrete). It is not full scale, it is approx. 3/4 scale.
I do alot of volunteer work at the Fort Sill Artillery museum and we have 3 original coehorn mortars so I did alot of measuring on actual ones to get the scale right. I am about to build another one, I have the materials and thought it would look good one on each side of the fireplace. (providing the wife is good with that)

batycb.....great to have you join the group. I've certainly picked up a lot of beneficial information from this group and I'm sure that you will too.
When you respond to Double D, regarding the size of the bore, please also tell us what the approximate weight is also how large of a charge you use to launch that paint can. We are all interested in all the information that we can pick up on these mortars. Many thanks. Blaster (Bob in CO)

After the concrete sets in the can in weighes about 5.5 lbs. I use 2-4oz of cannon or 1F Black powder. Really anything over 3oz of powder is just smoke and flame, but you know us Army guys we have a problem with moderation (in all things).
Also the wall thinkness on the mortar it about 1.125 inch.

Welcome! I'm a graduate of the Commanche County Cannon Cocker College, Class 6-72.

I'd be more than willing to convert your measurements into CAD drawings - working drawings for making the mortars.
