pie irons or clamshell cooking
« on: May 23, 2003, 06:01:53 AM »
does any one hear cook over a fire usining a cast iron clamshell that is sometimes called a pie iron? you can anything from griled cheese to apple pie in them. alls what you do is take 2 pieces of bread butter the outsides, fill the insides place in cooker and trim of the edges. only trouble is trying to make enough to feed 3 people when you only have one!!! :)

Try a cherry or blueberry pie filling and butter with cinamon sugar on the outside of the bread. Yum. John.

I grew up camping with my family and my fondest memories were of making "pies" by the fire.

Our favorites were;

Pizza Pies:  Pepperoni, pizza/spag. sauce, mozzarella cheese

Stew Pies:  Dinty Moore stew

Dessert Pies:  Canned pie fillings of your choice

I have found making pies around the campfire to be more of an experience than "just a meal".  This is the stuff that memories are made of.
