Opening day report
« on: April 17, 2005, 01:52:59 PM »
I got skunked! I'uz overwhelmed! Circumstances were beyond my control! It was great! Can't wait to go back and try all over again!
Went to a spot, that I'm familier with, yesterday evening. Been there several times over the last three years. A small stream feeds into a river. Nice place, but high water this year changed everything. No more sand bar, the bottom contours are all different. Oh well, that's fishing. It was a great spot, easy to work out, and had everything in it, from trout to musky. The fish are still there, somewhere. I do have some wonderful memories to keep, and they only get better with time.
Have to go back and figure every thing out, probably during low water this summer. It's a tough project, but someone has to do it!
By the way, the weather was very comfortable.               Woodbutcher

So I wasn't the only one who got skunked?

I had a Palomino on...but he shook it off...and he also took a pass at it my PowerBait in the morning...I had him on when I went back to the hole later that nite.

My friend got a brown...nice size...and it was tagged...weird and interesting. That was about all the luck we had. But I got all season yet   .  :D

Dear Fishman:
Iffen ya ain't screwin up sumpin occasional like, ya just ain't tryin very hard! Palomino you say? You must be doing something right.
I've tried that power bait, works fine. Just keep the roll casts gentle. The guys I was with at the time was mortified, I guess they didn't have a doughball pattern.
Been working at tying some streamers, big ones, 3 to 6 inches. Gotta keep 'em sparse so they'll cast, and still go deep. Also working on leader that will work with these critters. So far cheap mono with a little plumbers wool at the knots seems to keep the leader down.  I figure this will be the thing for some of the larger steams around here. Streamers can work a lot of water.                                                  Woodbutcher

I think I might fish the stream down by my house tomorrow...got me a lil brookie in there last year....and that stream hadn't been stocked in 5 years  .

Like I said, we got days and days left till we consider it a defeat. Don't worry...luck's gotta catch up to us sometime.

Good luck in all the future outings!!  :D
