Not gonna happen. Just not enough of you here to justify it. Now what I might do is to let you post them on the Silhouette forum if the Moderator will agree to remove them once you've sold your items and IF you guys will actually let him know when to do that.

I don't want them left up after an item sells as it clutters the discussion area too much. Same reason I don't like having for sale/trade/buy posts in the discussion forums to begin with. But I do now allow it in a few specialized areas of the site.

So the question becomes. Will you guys mark the subject line to let the moderator know when to delete them? And will the moderator agree to do that? If both are yes I'll give you a trial run at posting them mixed in with the discussion on the forum.

Thats a generous offer. There is no reason we can't police ourselves, and keep our own posts cleaned up. It sure would make it easy to sell to a specific audience!!

GreyBeard,
This will be good for us,  and I think we can comply with what  you are asking.  I don't know how you are set up.  But if you could have the sale, trade, items listed as such and have them only posted for a certain number of days and be automatically removed.  This would clean up anything more than a few days old, I think.  I agree that that lots of "old" ads are somewhat distracting,  but on the other hand all of us could use a bargain now and then.  Don Weathersbee

No way to do that. Posts are posts to the server. It can't recognize a for sale/trade post as different from any other. If I set it to delete after a certain period all posts on the forum will be deleted after that many days.

Either the moderator agrees to delete them as he and I are the only ones who can and I'm not gonna and you guys agree to mark them for it to be easy for him or it doesn't happen.

So far your moderator hasn't chimed in and agreed.

Bill is on the dot on this fella's, you can post an item here for sale and it will be on the opening page for 5 to 7 weeks before it falls off.  Just not a lot of silhouette shooters making posts.  (Silhouettte in general is a pretty small sport) In contrast a post on the TC forum will last about 1 week before it goes to page 2. For a really slow forum the Youth Hunting and shooting has posts from December still on the front page.  Working harder is not smarter, just post your for sale items here and when sold the moderator can dump the post.  Makes more sense and is less work.  Ol' GB knows his site very well indeed ;~) Keep up the good work GB !

All right, the moderator is chiming in and agreeing.  Silhouette shooters have some specialized stuff to buy, sell and trade, and it makes sense that we do it here.

Keep the ads related to silhouette and remember to edit the subject line to say DELETE or SOLD once the ad has served its purpose.  This will allow me to delete the old ads so they do not clutter up the forum.

Also, please take a look at the announcement at the top of the Classifieds Ads forum http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=58 and note that we may NOT post items that are listed on ANY auction site, nor may we sell items here that we bought specifically to resell for profit.

Thanks Jim, So i guess we can keep it small and if it sells we just leave a post at the end when we want it deleted?

Thanks Jim and Bill(Graybeard). I would say we should edit the subject line of the original post when the item is either sold or we are done with the posting for any reason...as promptly as possible. Just put "please remove" or "SOLD" something similar.
By editing the subject line Jim won't have to go through each posting and he shouldn't have to. The original poster has the authority to edit his own posting.  Bill R

NO. Doing this will lead to the end of your being allowed to post buy/sell/trade threads here.

You MUST edit the subject line in your original post to say either SOLD, DELETE or something to that effect to let Jim know to remove it. If this is not followed by posters you will lose the priviledge of posting them here.
