Weaver T 16 question
« on: September 27, 2004, 02:24:11 PM »
Finally got to sight in an older (made in USA) weaver T 16. I started at 40 meters, and for best clarity the objective was set at 47. The number on the movable being 7; number on the stationary part being closest to 4. I thought this was very close to the actual yards I was shooting at until I moved the target back to 60 meters. Instead of going to a higher number for more distance, the best scope picture had the objective lens set at 45!
When I got to 77 meters, the best clarity was with the objective set at 42.
At 100 meters, the objective setting was 39. I experimented with trying to set the objective at both extremes of its travel, but all I got was very blurry results. The elevation and windage knobs worked very smoothly and were checked for repeatability. From chickens to rams I used 8.5 minutes of elevation with Federal 711B Gold Medal ammo, same as my other rifle with a Leoupold scope.
My question is- what do the numbers on the objective lens represent, and why are they decreasing when the range is increasing? Anybody got an owners manual for this T-16? It also has a dot reticle(1/2") and a Premier Reticle sticker. I bought it used, with no papers.
Thanks, Jim

I've had some of those but was a long time ago.  Didn't care for them because I had to turn the objective focul several turns from one target to another  for small bore.   HIgh power and longer distance didn't require as much turning.    The numbers are used as a reference.  YOu sight in at the various distances and record the numbers,  like sight settings.  For each distance you have to set all the numbers you have recorded.  They track very good and are reliable.   I had problems seeing the high-power rams on hot days with high humidity.  Don

Jim, the tracking on the old T model Weaver scopes is one of the best, too bad their optics leave a lot to be desired and they are quite heavy.  I own several old Weavers and the T16X and the T16X bumped to 25X scopes are my favorites.

I bought a lot of my scopes used and some new but don’t remember seeing any manuals for them.

Do not try to match the numbers of the scope to yards or meters. I do not know what the numbers on the objective bell represent but I use them to record my parallax settings.   On all the different target scopes that I own that have the parallax adjustment on the front of the scope I have to move their bells out as I decrease the distance and move them in as I increase the distance.

I have found that on a lot of the old T model scopes specially the T6, T10 and T16 that I can make the adjustments for the four different targets in smallbore silhouette and stay within one full turn of the bell just like you did by using only 8 graduations.  You only went two graduations less when you went to pigs and went three less for each of the other two.

I have never gone less than four graduations between the first two distances on any of my old Weaver T model scopes.  The closer distances are more critical as far as parallax adjustments are concerned.  When using a T10 or T16 and found the correct parallax setting for the chickens I usually went 5 graduations less for the pigs, three less for the turkeys and two less for the rams.  I hope this helps you.

Hi,

I actually had a manual on its way to me but it got lost at the sellers home from one of the hurricanes down in FL.  He is working hard on getting me one so if I get it I will past the info onto you.

I love my old steel Weavers and have them on all my silhouette rifles.

Medbill, thanks for replying . I appreciate your help, if you get the manual.
Where in NY are you? I'm in the Binghamton area, and according to the NYSRPA, the only clubs in the state holding silhouette matches are in this part of the state. Where do you do your silhouette shooting?
