Just picked up a 20 Red Label
« on: October 08, 2004, 04:32:29 PM »
Just bought a used 20 ga Red label.  Built in '82.  Has some bluing wear under the reciever from being carried, and needs a good cleaning, but otherwise in good condition.  Got it for $595 at my favorite pawn shop.  Choked Mod and full, 3" chambers.

Did ok, I think.  Anxious to try it out on chukars.
Regards,

Tom

Sounds fair, you will enjoy it!

I picked up a used one the other day from a friend.  I had shot it a bit and really like the Red Labels.

Just finished putting a sling swivel kit on it.  The one mine took was the Uncle Mikes 1596-2 which is the Magnum Band split band which ranges from .675 to .725.  My barrel measured .710 where I mounted the split band.  The sling is really handy to slip over your shoulder from the front to use both hands for something else, like plucking out cactus splines or using bioculars.  Also nice to hang it on your front when climbing down steep slopes in case you do some sliding on loose rock.

The other thing I did was change out the ejector springs with some of thinner gauge wire and streched to the same length as the factory springs.  Really easy to change them out.  Now I don't have to worry about catching cases on the fly or picking them out of cactus.

My son now has my 12 gauge Red Label and I have the 20 and a new 28.
