Finally narrowed down my scope choices.

Will be used on a Beeman R7.

1- Located a 4X Burris compact Rimfire/Airgun with AO - Burris is no longer making these so they will be harder to come by as time goes on. Pefect size scope for this little air rifle.

2- If not the Burris then at the next show I might try to trade for a Leupold 3-9 EFR

3- If niether of those work out then I will just settle for the 4X Simmons ProAir for now.

Given the 3 choices, the EFR is at the top of the list. You can't beat that one. If you have a choice of the 3 and don't mind the price, get the EFR. I have one, and a Simmons 4x32. The EFR is on an R-10, and so far has held up well. Good optics, bright picture, overall an excellent choice.
The Simmons 4x32 is a very small scope and fits well proportionally on a small gun. It should hold up well on the R-7 also. Optics are pretty good, sight picture is good, a little blurry around the edges though. Theres a version of the Simmons 4x32AO that has sort of a mildot reticle too, its sold as a crossbow scope. Sportsmans Guide has them on sale.

I really wish you luck on that Simmons Pro Air.  I tried one on my Beeman R-10 and it didn't hold up over 50 shots.  Simmons took their sweet time in replacing it so when the new one came I donated it to the church to raffle off.  In my opinion I would go to Ebay and see about a Burris or Leupold.  I have nailed two NIB Leupold EFR scopes there for about half of what they cost in the stores.  Lawdog

At the moment someone has outbid me for the Burris scope. Have to decide if I want to bid more or try for the trade for the Leupold EFR. I am not really sure if he still has one in stock , but he did have one at the last show.

As far as the Simmons ProAir - Chris at SWFA claims they are good scopes. Thanks Lawdog for the post anyway. Makes me more inclined to go with the Burris or Leupold. The only Simmons I have is a 22 Mag which might be similar to the ProAir except for no adjustable objective. It has given me good results on 22 rifles. Of course air rifles are a different story. Suposedly their air rifle line should be designed for the air rifle dual recoil? Maybe not , judging from your experience? Then again all scopes can have problems - had to send back a Leupold 2X EER handgun scope right out of the box - was promptly replaced by Leupold.

For now - still trying to decide if I want to bid any higher on the Burris.

TC Shooter,

Maybe I should have clarified my statement.  I am not condemning all Simmons scopes.  Just the Pro Air model(outside of my experience I have talked to many others that have had about the same problems).  My son has a Simmons scope on his new Ruger M77 .25-06 and it’s clear and sharp to the edges.  Doesn’t change POI when changing power levels like some low cost scopes do.  Really a person couldn’t ask for more at the cost.  Just wanted to set the record straight.  Lawdog

Well the Burris was bid higher than I was willing to go - finally ended at $172.50 . So the next scope I will try for will be the Leupold EFR. Hopefully the dealer will still have one at the gun show in a few weeks.

Wow - a lot of negative comments on the ProAir! Well , maybe things work out with the Leupold .

I have 2 of the Simmons Pro-Air scopes, one 4-12 and one 6-18.  The 4-12 has survived a stint on an RWS 48, but now resides on a Webley Longbow.  The 6-18 is on a precharged rifle (easy life), so I cannot vouch for its durability yet.  Both are optically impressive for the price, as good if not bettering other scopes costing much more, in clarity and brightness.  I only wish they had a fast-focus eye piece.

I found out that Weaver has come out with a 3-9 rimfire with AO , matte finish and click adjusments - may have to check that one out also. SWFA has them for $199. Have to see if they are air gun rated.

Found the Leupold EFR for $240 over at D&R - about the lowest price I have seen for these anywhere. Was not too long ago that $320 was the lowest price I could find. Don't know what happened to make the prices go down so much? Not complaining! Maybe Chinese optics?

Better get in touch with the folks at Weaver and make sure they are AIR RIFLE(springer type) APPROVED.  Rim fire approved just means they will focus down to a closer range(usually 25 yards) than big game scopes and doesn't mean they will hold up to the recoil of springer air rifles.  .  Lawdog
