I borrowed a Traditions 209 Tracker from a friend so that a co-worker of mine that doesn't have a blackpowder rifle could hunt. I had setup(the gun was never fired and maybe a year old) and sighted in the rifle the week before and didn't have any problems. I cleaned the gun and gave it to my co-worker. We both had taken the day off to hunt the opening day of early muzzle loader. On opening day we both headed into the woods. Our stands are about 500 yards apart. It was still dark when I saw a flashlight heading my way. It was my co-worker. He couldn't get the primer into the breech plug. Well, neither could I. It turns out the breech plug had broken. The spring that holds the 209 primer in place was out of place and one of the two ears that the primer slips into had broken off. It ruined both of our hunts and I don't know how it could have happened. Maybe it was from reassembling the gun or from dry firing(which I didn't do). Still it should have never have broken.
Anyway, I checked their website without any luck and I need to get a new breech plug. Anyone have any ideas?
I was going to buy it off my friend for my son. But not now. He can keep that POS. My son can hunt with my old T/C Hawkens. It has never let me down.
