Are trade union members all idiots?

Well there are a lot of sportsman who like Kerry?? Now he's a anti-gunner who wants to put a $50 tax on handgun ammo to start with??  I'm sure he will raise the AWB bill again and pass it.  I don't own any assualt weapons but i surely support those who do because after we lose them you know whats NEXT RIGHT?? I think we should be able to own any gun we want to no matter what.  Again i'm sure he is going after some of our so called useless guns too that they think we shouldn't own too.  I hope these fellow sportsman  WAKEUP soon for some are being misslead or maybe they don't understand.  If Kerry gets in all we maybe left with is shotguns so thinkabout it?  Don't let this clown fool you.  When he says he'll bring back jobs my question is where are they going to come from??  Do you think he is going to bring his and his wifes companies they own and run overseas back here for us to have jobs again??  I don't think so.  While i don't like either one of them I have to go with the lesser threat  GWB?                                               BigBill

In the future we must put in office who is going to straighten this misslead country out and so far we have no one in sight of doing this for most just want a free ride and get the 200k retirement after.  We have lost jobs since '83 then we flatline then it goes down again when we lose jobs again then it flatlines then it goes down again when we lose jobs again so my point is we continue to go in a downward spiral we never get an increase in jobs we only go down everytime. Soon there will be no jobs left we have lost most of the manufacturing jobs in this country already.
FACT;  Here in CT in one month we lost 5,000 jobs and the politicians said it ok because we got 900 new jobs.  Does that sound ok to you?? Let me see we lost 5,000 jobs but got 900 new jobs a kindergarten kid could do that math and see were in the hole for 4,100 jobs??
We need to start somewhere and putting in office someone who make changes not blend in with the rest of the seat warmers once their elected. So choose wisely grasshoppers for if we put the wrong guy in it will be tough for all us sportsman. :D

For all you union members who don't like your dues being spent to support politicians, Federal law gives you the right to request a refund for what ever portion of your dues are spent on politics.  It probably won't amount to much, but it causes a lot of nuisance work for the treasurer.

I was a union member for nearly 40 years (now retired) and I got my refund every year once I became aware of the law.  Our treasurer resented it so much that he would purposely spell my name wrong on the little check he had to issue to me each year.  The additional bookkeeping cost many times more than the value of the check, but too me it was the principle.

I'm a U.A.W. member. It's not legal to use our dues for politics, that comes form donations in the form of P.A.C. Big buz. has their commitee
that they can contribute to also. We all aren't idiots, there are idiots in every group of people. We are the ones that build the fighter planes, M1 tanks, cruise missiles, aircraft carriers, ect. I served in S.E.A. as a crew chief on F-4s. I don't care for either candidate, I'm smart enough to know that. I don't like someone taking my guns and I don't like someone sending my job overseas. I feel like the American service people have been making the world free for democracy so big business can send their jobs overseas. It's very very hard to buy American products now days. I try my dammest. I buy Chevy trucks and American firearms!!!! I always look at the label. If I can't find an American product I try to find a country that at least has a fair trade agreement with the U.S. And, my baby is American made......sorry touchy subject for me.

Later, Kid

Boy, talk about fair trade.  Did you know the combat boots many American military members are wearing were made in China? As are several other items they are issued. As for buying American in a vehicle, what vehicle is totally made in America today?  I own a Ford F-250 diesel, look anywhere on the truck and the wiring harnesses are all made in Mexico.  Same is true for Dodge and chevrolet.  I worked for Chevrolet for a short period after I retired from the military back in the late 70s, the transmissions made in Mexico almost killed GM. Just about any product you buy today is, or has some parts made overseas.  It's darn hard to buy a piece of clothing that's made in America.

I don't know the answer to correct the situation America is in, but I firmly believe if things don't change soon, we are headed for another depression.  Just like 1929, 1% of the people control all the money, jobs are being outsourced, and the backbone of this country, the working man, is finding himself bringing home less and less each payday as a result of inflation.  Our national debt is out of sight and I don't think Bush can fix it.

I'm plus-sixty and don't think this will impact my life to any large degree, but I fear for my grandchildren and what they may be left with.  I lived through a part of the great depression, and was raised by parents who struggled everyday to provide for us kids.  I wouldn't want to see anyone have to go though that again.

My father was a union ironworker, pipefitter/welder, and president of his union. I grew up with it....but my father and I are political opposites.

He's about as conservative as it comes...but pulls a straight Democratic ticket everytime..."for organized labor"...go figure..he's been retired 25 years...

The real idiotic paradox is the "northeastern" gun manufacturers would like to move to a more "gun friendly" environment/state but the union contracts will not let them relocate as long as certain products / (guns) are still being mfg. In other words, they have to be made "there".

The irony is the concerted opinion of the unions contradict the best interest of the worker in a lot of cases.

Quote from: Questor
I've seen the pro-gun literature prepared by the Kerry campaign and distributed to some of the trade unions. It makes him sound very pro gun and pro hunting. Of course, anyone who reads or even bothers to check basic facts knows this isn't true.

Are all of you trade union members idiots? Or is the Kerry campaign just treating you like you are?

Well Questor before you condemn all union workers maybe you should look at who won the election. Does that tell you how the majority of us idiots voted? To bad you have to use this forum to dis unions. Sometimes we don't have as much of a voice in how the powers that be act but, we do vote our conscience. "Laborers Build America"

I have let this one alone for fear of starting a flame but I think I must say a couple of things you folks have not thought about.
Trade unions became necessary not because of any socialist causes but in self defense from the abuses of big business. You talk about standing up for your gun rights, and that is good. Those boys of old stood up, some died and many more injured for their rights. It is my opinion that the american labor movement made life better for the American middle class. I do not believe there would be a middle class if not for trade unions.
I could even argue that America would never have been the nation it became without trade unions. They harbor no more due disrespect than big business. They made my life a better life, and I have never belonged to a trade union as I was an administrative and sales lackey my whole business career.
This history should not be forgotten, unfortunately I think it has been.
