.260 remington
« on: June 21, 2004, 05:34:14 PM »
does any one have the factory overall length of this cartridge?I have a Browning A bolt in 260 that MAY have a short chamber. Any thing loaded longer than 2.725 or so wont chamber.I have pulled bullets from the case when trying to extract an UNFIRED case!? This was with 140 & 120 grain bullets. Those 140's eat up a lot of powder space.
  thanks in advance,,,jh

The standard is 2.800" but depending on bullet design and style you may be limited by that. My .260 will handle 2.800" and a little more than that if I'm using a poly tipped bullet of some sort and usually my magazine box limits me. My gun is a Rem. LSS Mtn. rifle.  You may want to get a chamber cast to make sure yours is throated correctly as it sounds as if is not.

thanks ,skb that is what I'm thinking!I got this gun to replace a 7-08 with an 18" barrel, but with that short chamber, it wont handle 140's very well. At least not as speedy as the 7-08.Maybe 120's will work OK in it?    jh

Is there a place on the internet where I can find the dimensions of a 260 Remington case?
