Depends on the powder that is used. A 44 Mag with Win 296 looks like a flame thrower.

I would say my 6 inch BFR in 500MAG with 575 gr. bullet over 33.5 gr. of Lil Gun powder. What a flash.

I've got most of the large caliber hand guns, including the Smith 500 and the one that produces the biggest flash and heat to the face is my Lone Eagle in 30-06 with a comp barrel......the kick is kind comparied to the hot flash coming back into your face.......a fun experience for sure!!

patm41, I never thought about the tokarev but I guess those high velocity rounds do that. I know those guns are only about $125 and ammo is cheap(S&B). Wouldn't be sweet to have two - one in each hand!!!

It would be my blk-pdr .50 cal at the candle shoot!

Really hadn't paid that much attention to my (new in dec) .45 Vaquero.
Still seems kinda tame as compared to my cap n balls & single shot.

Try a short-barrelled AR sometime.  You can read by it a few hundred yards away!  What a hoot.

Yup, that 296 is pretty good for fireworks.  My 454 with 300gr. bullets yesterday had a load of 30grs. w/296.  I can feel the heat from those a little bit if it is not windy, and I get peppered by the little ball powder granules.  I was shocked yesterday when I had fired a shot after lookin' through my spotting scope at a target 50 yds away.  Once I got lined up and fired the shot, I realized something:  I didn't put my saftey glasses back on!!!     Thank God though, no powder granules hit me in the eyes, only the forehead a bit.  So remember: when shooting those big boys, especially if they are in revolvers, don't forget the glasses! 8)   But, I'm sure 500 S&W will most likely have the biggest muzzle blast, as far as pistol cartridges go.  I wonder what a single-shot pistol in .50 BMG would be like....I'm still waitin'!!!! :D   Patriot

BTW sageman, I tried the pic myself and can't get it to post either.  I think something may have been done so it can't be posted elsewhere; maybe copyrighted or similar to that nature.  For those who want to view the pic with minimal effort on their part  , click here ------->>>  http://www.vagrom.com/Pictures/090404/pages/P9040061.htm

Interesting what that little .223 can do.
