Dumb Mistake!!!!
« on: October 18, 2004, 03:16:07 PM »
I just got back from a long night at the range with my new encore muzzleloader, which I had a guy at the gunstore mount a Leupold scope on, after 16 round of firing and cleaning and couldn't stay on the paper. I realized he had mounted the scope rotated 90 degree to the left so up&down was Left and right. You would think after shooting rifles for 40+ years it wouldn't have taken 16 rounds to figure this out! Rotated the scope and 19 and 20 touched 2" above bullseye, oh well back to Bass-pro for more bullets.

We all do those sorts of things from time to time. I'm sure I could probably write a book on mine. Usually when I'm trying to do too many things at a time or when for whatever reason my mind is not totally on the business at hand. Sometimes you just have to kick back and laugh at yourself. I don't think it pays to take yourself too seriously all the time. Good Shooting!

Black powder are funny things. My encore likes hornady 250 sst with two 50 grain pellets. I get moa out of it. Now you load 100 grain loose powder with the same bullet. I get different results like 1.5 to 2.0. I hope you get your rifle straighten out. NOW my brother is right hand and I am left hand. When I shoulder his rifle his scope is turn 90 degree turn slightly. But if I shoulder it right hand it straight as arrow. If he shoulder my rifle he gets the same results. That why I Alway install my own scope. Good luck I hope you get your money back. and hit him up for some  bullets.

I had a Rem 788 that would eject the brass into the turret cap.  The solution was to rotate the scope.  I have seen some really strange stuff done by "gunsmiths" while mounting scopes.  This yr. a guy had a beautiful Sako lever with the objective touching the barrel.  I let him use my screwdrivers and the results were great groups.  The strangest was a gentleman who was not firing.  He would simply look through his scope and then at the target.  After about three trips to check targets by everyone else,  I asked him if he was having a problem.  His reply, "Aren't scopes supposed to make the target appear closer?".
"Freedom, for some, is problematic.  It does not grant emancipation from responsibility."

I did the old scope tilt to myself, kinda embarrassing to have to rotate the scope at the range when you went there with your girlfriend to-boot.
