We had the same pic down here in Iowa to. Claimed to be from Monroe County Iowa. Also had this pic but with an Elk in place of the deer. Our pic was in color though.

And, coincidentally, just last weekend the Lincoln Journal/Star reported a similar trail cam pic turned in by a user along the Niobrara River, in Keya Paha county. The pic was posted in the paper...but didn't have a deer in it, was in color, there were no grassy undergrowths showing, and the trees were all conifers. This picture was somehow quality enough to print and had plenty of clarity and resolution. It was either one heck of a digital or 35mm unit in that cam, or else this individual was very lucky on the focusing for the distance that the shot was taken.
We hadn't had many confirmed sightings in our state for years...until recently. Then a lot of off-season activity like the one that showed up along busy intersection in heart of Omaha...and all the local authorities had to round it up. Or the one found more central-state in a little town north of Grand Island...was shot by the local cop as it went for a fence near the grade school. Last year a legitimate clip of film footage was shot by a game commission officer over a deer kill in Northeastern Nebraska.
Iowa's had some roadkill incidents in recent years (near Hamburg, for instance).
Anything is possible in Nature, I believe. Its why we get an occasional two-headed cow or snake, etc. But unfortunately there's sometimes honest clips posted on the web that eventually get tweaked, twisted, pasted over or reposted by unhonest folks, tricksters, truth stretchers, etc. and then it gets very difficult to sort it all out where the legit original started from.
Know what I mean???
