TC Encore question
« on: October 18, 2004, 01:41:08 AM »
I have an encore with a muzzeloader barrel and a 300 mag barrel and love them both. Can this gun be made into a pistol? Does the butt stock come off and be replaced with a pistol grip? What different barrels are offered if possable? Also what are the round about prices for getting a new grip and barrels? Thanks.

Yes, it can be turned into a pistol using the frame and additional forearm and grip.  The buttstock comes off by taking out the allen head screw from the base of the buttstock. Grip installs the same way.  Just about any caliber of barrel is available from factory or aftermarket retailers.  These are average prices...Barrels run anywhere from $180 to 200 used and around, I think, $200-250 new depending on what you want.   Grips and forearms...anywhere from $20-$40 depending on what you are looking for.  You may find a deal here or there..  Go to the TC factory webpage and check their prices out.  Then you will know what brand-new costs and can judge the used prices.

I shoot a 250Sav rifle barrel and then switch over to a 30.06 15" pistol barrel.  Takes about 3-4 minutes to switch over.

Is is possible to do it? Yes, very eaisly so. However the ATF will not like it so keep that in mind. If it's sold as a rifle it must always be so, if sold as a pistol or just the frame it can be anything you want it to be.

You are 100% correct Reed1911. I have changed my Encore rifle to a pistol. I have 4 Encore frames and 2 were registered as rifles and 2 were registered as pistols. But I have changes the rifle frame to a pistol and a pistol frame to a rifle. The only way to check how it was registered is for them to go back to the point of sale to see how it was registered or contact T/C and see how the gun was shipped.  I personally think it is a little ridicules and if you are legally hunting or shooting with it in the correct season there would not be a question of what was it registered as. I hunted with my Encore 30-06 pistol and was stopped by a game warden, and he just wanted to know what I was using and what I was hunting for. He never asked me what my Encore pistol was registered as. But again with all that said as Reed1911 said the ATF will not like it.
