I was on the Buffalo Arms web site the other night. In the brass section they listed a number of 40-65 cases. The one I'm curious about was longer than the others and was called a Ron Long chamber. What is it? Why longer, Where longer. I'll get up on this subject pretty soon, with some help I think.

Ron Long is a noted gunsmith & successful BPCR silhouette shooter. I am not sure if he still is affiliated w/ Ballard Rifles.

He 'pioneered' the use of the .40-65 Winchester Central Fire as a successful silhouette cartridge by using a much heavier bullet of larger dia. than the original .40-65.

I believe that he also lengthened  the cartridge case ‘neck’ to support the heavier bullet.

Ray; Thanks for the note on what went on. I wondered why a separate case was for sale, now I know.

Hi,Bumble.
Hi,Ray.About that "neck".I've been foolin' around with 40/65,and my cases are tapered.I too, have wondered about the differences between the various brass case products. To give a case a name...is it different from the others in 40/65 in length?
