First deer of the season
« on: October 25, 2004, 04:50:24 AM »
Dragged my first deer out of the woods last Saturday.  I was hunting with my new hunting partner.  We were hunting down in the tickets around a small stream as it had been windy and wet all morning.  Thinking the deer would be held up in this weather.  Well we didn't see any thing all morning so around 10:30 we decided to head for the jeep and a nice warm cup of coffee.  As we were walking up the tail (no more then 100 yrds from the jeep)  Mervin froze up and told me to stop there was a doe no more then 15 yrds away looking at us. I told heck don't tell me shoot it.  This was Mervins first muzzle loader deer hunt ....  He was shooting my old CVA bobcat sidelock smoke pole with 80gr of BP and a CVA buckslayer bullet.  He made a great shot on the doe and she dropped in her tracks.  Being the nice guy I am I handed him my knife and said have fun.  After the dirty work was done I even offered to drag the deer out of the woods for him.....  Shortest deer drag of my life as I sent him to get my jeep and bring it down the firebreak so I ended up dragging HIS deer about 30 yrds.  Man ain't I a nice guy?????  Well after hanging the deer over night in my shed man hope the landlord doesn't notice the blood strains on the floor... We processed the deer.  Looks like backstrap for dinner tonight.
All in all a very good hunt.
