Ace Hardware Cutting oil for moose milk?
« on: October 18, 2004, 02:20:15 AM »
I found a cutting oil at Ace hardare, that doesnt contain petrolium distillates, like all the other oils do.  I made a small batch of moose milk with it,

1 ounce cutting oil
1 ounce Murphys oil soap
4 ounces water.

It turned milky and stayed that way for about 24 hours, but the second day, it seperated, oil on top, clear water on bottom.  a quick shake and it was milky again.

Is this normal?  or do I need to send away for Napa cutting oil?

I forget which way it has to be, but adding water to the oil - or adding oil to the water makes a big difference - according to the makers of the oil I bought.  Sumthin about molecules surrounding other molecules.  You might try two small batches - one one way - one ta other - and see if it makes a difference.  Then add soap.

Best of luck

Now that iw weird.  I also have (had now) some from NAPA and it would not stay mixed. Bout every 3-4 days it would seperate & it built a scum of thick oil that you could shake the H out of it & it would never mix.

Reading the above posts, I retrieved my bottle of NAPA Soluble Cutting & Grinding Oil. Instructions on back read as follows:

1. Determine amount of soluable oil and water to be used in emulsion.

2.place half the amount of water in suitable container.

3.Agitate and slowly add soluble oil to be used.

4. After oil is emulsified, add remainder of water, continuing agitation untill completely mixed.

Note: Always add soluble oil to the water. Never add water to straight soluble oil.

Hope this helps
