Quick Question
« on: October 27, 2004, 11:43:53 AM »
Hello everyone, i don't know if this is a rumor or what, i just wanted to know if it was true, I have a winchester x-150 muzzleloader, it is made by BPI as long with the CVA's and other line of muzzleloaders, I heard this, im not sure if it is true or what not, Are they really not made to handle the pressures generated by the black powder, i have heard from a different forum that they aren't rated for what they say but the instruction manual says how much powder to use, they wouldn't tell you how much you could use if they knew it would hurt you right?...Is this rumor true that they can really explode or some kind of trick somebody started to scare people, has anyone else heard of this?

No it's true, some BPI muzzleloaders have let go with approved loads. I sent you a PM with a link to a topic on another forum where the owner's CVA blew out it's breech plug. You can also check this out: http://www.chuckhawks.com/unsafe_muzzleloaders.htm It's got a good amount of info in it. If you want more info I can find where a guy blew his Winchester X-150 as well. I'll have to look for all the links on that one. he posted that one in a couple places.
