I'm thinking of sending off my sb2 frame for one of those 20" 243 barrels for deer. I hate slings, and use them in the dark for a free hand.
My thought is to put the whole shebang in my pack... which would necessitate taking off the scope. I use those twist off screws on mounts, and it comes off easy, but I have never used after sighting in. I just really tighten them, so it's too tough to loosen.
My question is. Will the gun hold zero (should) if I take the scope off the rail the way detachable mounts were intended.. Seems like it would in that scope and rings seat back where they were. Anybody with experience
doing this?

I've removed and replaced the scope, several times before on a restocked 308 Survivor, using Leupolds QWR(quick release rings) and had very little shift of impact...maybe 1/8" ...but more the most part it was hardly noticable...they may cost a-little more...but you get what you pay for...
